My father told me that music is the main source to keep our souls young and happy. Elizabeth Scott also says that music can help us in our health.  In her article “how and why is music a good tool for health”, Scott says that music has a profound effect t on our bodies and minds. Hospitals are beginning to use music therapy to help cancer patients and other like depression and to calm patients. Scott says that research has shown that music with a faster beat brings sharper concentration and more alert thinking and slower beats promote a calm, meditative state. I personally think music can help me go through difficult times in my live, like not falling into depression when I feel week and alone, and keep me mentally healthy.
About six years ago I went to the Hospital because I was feeling short of breath. The Hospital send me back home with medicine for Neumonia. After three days pass, I was not feeling any better, I went back to the Hospital again, and this time I end up staying for the longest twenty eight days of my life. The doctors told me I had T.B. I stayed in the Hospital for so long that I was feeling depressed. I went in to surgery twice because my lungs were about to collapse fill with liquid, one after the other one. The worse was I could not see my family that much and only through a window for safety reasons. I remember I had my Ipod and I would listen music all day. I used to be next a patient that used to scream a lot, to the nurses and doctors. At those moments I would enjoy my music the most.
I believe what music did for me was to keep me focus and not let my surround affect me. Scott says in her article that “music therapy can help prevent the damaging effects of chronic stress, there by aiding not only relation, but also health. Music brings a more positive state of mind”. I experienced the effects of music of first hand, at that time I just thought that music was helping feel good, but now that I think better also helped me ease my pain, and helped to keep peace in family, because they didn’t see me down.
Is music a good tool for health?. Yes, it is. Because it keep us focus and not let our surrounds affect us. Music could stop us from losing our minds in our most difficult and depressing times, but I think music never make you feel alone.
